Banana Men
In Tally Hall's famous little internet music video (If you know about albinoblacksheep, you know the ditty!), "Banana Man," is the wonderful little line that tells us to "...go with de flow; forget about whatever you may never know." The siren song of the wonky video that asks us to do just that is "Do you want a banana? Peel it down and go MMMM; Do you want a banana? This banana's for you!"
Oh, man, Senator Kennedy, do go have a banana, for chrissakes! At the Alito hearings today, he loudly bemoaned a stripsearch ruling that allowed a girl to "be forever scarred" by the practice. Of course, Sam Alito, knocked it over the fence by replying more reasonably that (a) the search was done by a female, and (b) if we exempt children from searches, where does the good senator think the next wave of drug smuggling will come from?
Outstanding reply, and it almost made me forget that Teddy was complaining about a girl's trauma. Overcompensating for Mary Jo, are we, senator? Do you want a banana?
Let me say something as loudly as the Senator always does. (By the way, does the senator have a volume control knob in his rhetoric somewhere?) The real point is this:
WE are the ones being asked to forget our true danger and just have a big yellow one.
WE are the ones watching mosques erected in our neighborhoods, their faithful evangelizing our families;
WE are the ones being stripsearched out of our jobs by everyone from Wal Mart to Linksys (whose tech support phones are, yes indeedy, manned in India.)
WE are the ones being raped, shot at, robbed and having our country endangered by an absence of a fenced border.
The last one is not just galling but frightening as anyone with an intellect can imagine. We can staff a line of sight DMZ in Korea, but Arizona border agents still are outgunned. We can invent AWACS technology and infrared scanners, but millions of people are still streaming over our border.
Why is this so frightening? It will never go away until, as pogo might have said, "We have met the enemy and it is us!" The average Illegal Alien (And yes that is the proper term, NOT migrant worker.) comes, works, sends money back to mamasita and the young'uns, and then stays to do it all again. Mamasita can buy food now, so she no longer has to (by the millions) pressure her government to change. Co-dependency sets in. Ad-infinitum.
Have a banana. Worry about which tie Mr. Alito should have worn to the hearings. Go with de flow; forget about whatever you may never know. Do you know if they print the Koran in spanish?
